Reclaiming Advertising Space

June 2, 2011
by

We’ve had a little dead time from Breathe bloggers for a month, for hopefully understandable reasons (a new baby, an international church plant and a Breathe-linked speaking tour, and – for Jeremy, Phil and I respectively). But I really wanted to draw attention to the outrageously creative work being done by Micah Purnell in Manchester.

From the proceeds of his design work, Micah actually purchases advertising space (via flyposting) for messages which sell nothing, but only promote a deeper life inspired by the message of Jesus. I can’t think of a better way of reclaiming the advertsing space that surrounds us so utterly. Anyway, Micah’s website explains it better than I could. He has an exhibition on for the next few days (Thursday – Saturday). Do make it over there if you can!

Very interesting – unfortunately the link doesn’t seem to be working, looks like the problem is their end though.

I’ve posted on consumerism issues a couple of times on my own blog: http://www.nextstarfish.com – I’m starting to think it’s actually the core issue to tackle in the Western World. If we weren’t so obsessed by ‘stuff’ we would have more time for each other, we wouldn’t be wrecking the planet etc.

I only discovered this blog recently – I’ll keep reading.

    Thanks Nextstarfish,

Micah tells me the site should be back up soon. Glad you’re enjoying the blog so far.
