Breathe: A Christian network for simpler living.

In a culture of consumerism, Breathes aims were to :

  • Appreciate life more fully; rediscovering how to be thankful for creation and community which consumerism devalues
  • Refuse the consumer dream; finding creative, prophetic, balanced, ironic and joyous ways of engaging with the prevailing culture
  • Connect with others; challenging our culture’s diminished faithful involvement with family, local community and those in need and creating a conversation space for sharing problems and solutions
  • Choose a more generous lifestyle; sharing the highs and lows of the journey and linking people to the work of practical agencies that are engaged in generosity, community, creation care and campaigns for justice

Breathe was started in 2005 by four friends and connected over 1000 people through regular updates. Breathe has hosted two annual conferences in the UK and a residential weekend away, launched initiatives to help break the consumer mould, and shares inspiration and resources through this blog.

On 30th September 2015 Breathe came to an end as a network.

Praise God – I had been looking for such a network. My husband, my 4-week-old baby, and I live in intentional Christian community with another young family. We are looking for ways to live more simply. Also, it would be awesome to connect to other people living in intentional community like us.

That’s great to hear. Breathe connects all kinds of people, some of whom are doing just what you are (not that I know where they live!. have you come across Conspire magazine? We’re big fans and it’s just up your street…

Long-time members of the Life Style Movement (pre PCs), we are writing a series on green living for our Diocesan mag (tho not Anglicans). This time our 400 word articles intends to cover Life Style and Breathe…. any ideas on how you guys would like to be presented?

Just found this site/blog. Want to read more. Not easy to back away from current trends, always, but do try. Very concerned about environmental situation, and resulting problems. Feel not enough mention of this in pre-election debates, TV or otherwise. Why have those in the know not emphasised the seriousness of it all. We have only one Earth, lent to us by God, and it is up to us to pass it on in a healthy state. We really are failing. Also a simpler lifestyle can be a richer one in so many ways, where time and energy are available for things which really matter..

Just found your site. This is great to see. While I’m not particularly religious, I think Jesus Christ is one the greatest historical figures to ever live and I try to emulate him as much as possible!
